without exception, everyone was kind and generous

The i-genius team is always out and about jingling with people of all walks of life, but none more than our very own Founder and CEO, Tommy Hutchinson, who enjoyed a very successful social entrepreneur tour in Indonesia and China the past few weeks. Below are Tommy's highlights in his own words.

Sunday 27th February – after a week relaxing in Bali (including starting most mornings with a yoga session) I arrive in Jakarta and have a enjoyable briefing over dinner with Fajar and Dhika from the British Council

Tuesday 1st March – speak on social finance at the launch of the Arthur Guinness Foundation Challenge, WTC, Jakarta before going to Bandung to have dinner with hosts from Padjadaran University.

Wednesday 2nd – speak at a workshop at a beautiful community center in Bandung followed by little kids trying to teach us how to make traditional toys (they were not impressed by my efforts!). Later visit a Rose farm in the hills.

Thursday 3rd – speak at the social entrepreneur conference at Padjardaran University before returning to Jakarta

Friday 4th – morning interview with journalist before overnight flight to Beijing

Saturday 5th March – dinner with Ian Robinson, British Council and begin to get a feel for Beijing

Sunday 6th – tour the Olympic stadium and Forbidden City – great!

Monday 7th – train to Jinan and speak to audience of 500 at Shandong University followed by dinner with University colleagues

Tuesday 8th - Fly to Shanghai

Wednesday 9th – Train to Ningbo and lecture at University of Nottingham Ningbo China followed by dinner

Thursday 10th – Fly to Changsha and lecture at Hunan University where I am formally made an Advisor on social entrepreneurship to the University

Friday 11th – given very interesting tour of the local sites including Academy where Mao studies before flying to Kunming

Saturday 12th – pretty tired so rest and stroll round the beautiful lake

Sunday 13th – afternoon lecture followed by dinner at beautiful old restaurant and then evening Salon with social entrepreneurs and local NGOs

Monday 14th – final walk round the university and fly home. Didn’t want to leave!

"My thanks to the people I met in Indonesia and China. Without exception, everyone was kind and generous. Thank you to British Council, the Universities, and other partners who hosted the tour. The interpreters all did a great job," commented Tommy Hutchinson.
