Is being vegetarian enough?

In recent public comments the former Beatle band member Sir Paul McCartney claims the world’s meat industry is one of the main contributors to global warming, and that by turning to a meat-free diet, we can all help fight global warming.

"I would urge everyone to think about taking this simple step to help our precious environment and save it for the children of the future. "I think the biggest change anyone could make in their own lifestyle would be to become vegetarian,” he said in an interview with animal rights organisation Peta.

Sir Paul became a vegetarian himself after watching lambs play in a field outside his home. He appears along with Alicia Silverstone, Casey Affleck and Forest Whitaker in the latest Peta campaign promoting vegetarianism.

Is being vegetarian enough? Turning into a vegetarian would do very little if we are not fighting global warming outside as well as in. How one chooses to commute, the choice of food outlets one visits, whether to use and reuse an eco-friendly bag whilst shopping, and simply choosing to buy fresh produce at a farmers’ market are all very impacting ways of reducing CO2 emissions. Global Warming is a joint international war for the future of our planet.

I agree, turning vegetarian is to become closer to nature, and hence improve your thought process, which in turn is good for society as a whole, both in a global warming sense, and on a social well-being level also. I think any positive change is a good one. Barry

"Is being vegetarian enough? Turning into a vegetarian would do very little if we are not fighting global warming outside as well as in." I think that turning vegetarian will make a major difference. It mindset evolving and I can not believe that a person who succeed to change his diet will not become more aware and responsAble for the society. I want support this conversion because it is a tangible big step in the good direction. Olivier C
