A Tribute to Michael Jackson

A Legend In Every Respect, Michael Jackson 1958-2009.

One reads the news in bold text and sits quiescently for a good five minutes whilst memories flicker and moonwalk in your head. The watery eyes make way for a cheeky child-like smile for now Michael sits in a world with colours beyond the imagination, on the shoulders of giants looking over nature’s garden with Sam Cooke on his left, Bob Marley on his right, and Ray Charles sitting at the piano waiting to get the ethereal party started.

Michael Jackson is the King and will forever be the king of pop music. He sent harmonious waves and electric vibes from America and all the way to Japan. He crossed over and dissolved racial barriers and epitomized the definition of world citizenship. He was the planet’s best entertainer that through his music showed his fans the beauty of world cultures sitting under one umbrella.

As a child, my first music tape purchase was that of Michael Jackson. I would sing his songs every day and try to imitate the dance moves, as did most children. My uncle on my mother’s side was a Jackson fanatic; most of our conversations were about Michael. He was the feature of our childhood household dance competitions, and once when on holiday in the Costa Del Sol, Spain, I even appeared on GMT Television (British) for a beach-side competition dancing and singing to Michael’s ‘Bad’. I was honoured with second place.

Michael Jackson in his own unique way revolutionized the music industry with a career that spanned 40 years. Thriller – need I say anymore changed the style and treatment of music videos. His dance moves were new, fresh, slick, sexy, and dynamic and inspired a wave of artists across the globe. From Jackson Five to ‘Heal the World’, Michael Jackson is a legend. How will you remember him? I spent the evening dancing with my daughter, and she was moving like a Smooth Criminal, and if you don’t believe me then you can ask the Liberian Girl or just Beat It! Rest In Peace Michael Jackson, we will never be alone because you rocked our hearts.
